L.A.I.F.A. stands for Los Angeles Italian Film Awards. The event is coming up April 26 through May 04 at the Arclight Theatre in Los Angeles, and at various Beverly Hills locations. (the social stuff)

My Super-8 film The Alphabet Song was one of 20 short films that will be screened during the festival, (along with several features).

And lo and behold, the screening will be held at the Arclight Theatre. Just a short distance from where the Flicker Fest held it's Attack of the Fifty Foot Film reels last November, and the same festival that snubbed my Super-8 entry because I finished it one day before the screening. (even though I had told them a week earlier that I was guaranteeing it would be done no matter what).

A sorry reason if you ask me, as my film was designed to inspire filmmakers to see that film and Super-8 filmmaking can allow for as much creativity as you care to give the medium, WITH NO CREW!

And as for why it was late, from camera testing, exposure testing, lyric transcription, video frame counting, digital frame count testing, Video to Photo/Credits, took me over 60 hours, plus the actual shooting that took 10 days and over 50 hours to complete. I probably spent more time on each and every step of the filmmaking process then many of the other filmmakers spent on their entire film. Yes, when you spend over 100 hours and close to a $1,000 dollars for one roll of Super-8 film, perhaps a compromise could have been worked out so the film could have been shown that night. (Perhaps show the film anonymously)

    But I digress.

So, six months after my snubbing by Flicker, I will get something near and dear to any filmmaker heart, a chance to see my film being shown in front of a large audience at the Arlight Theatre, that's all I had hoped for six months ago.

This just blows my mind. The Festival has a $50,000 Grant available for the winning screenplay. If the Screenplay can be produced for $50,000 or less, then the filmmaker gets to come to Hollywood and make their film!

In case anyone wants to volunteer for this years fest, it might be an excellent way to learn the ins and outs of all things related to festivals in a short span of time.

I failed to mention that just as important as showing the film was the all important feedback that I would have received from the screening.
